Water Safety for Kids

If you like to “play it cool” at the pool, the beach, or at a lake, pond, or river, here are a few simple rules to remember.

It’s a good idea to take swimming lessons. Check with your local YMCA, city or town hall, or health club for information about lessons.

Always swim with a grown-up.

Follow the posted rules and listen to the lifeguard. The lifeguard is on duty to help you stay safe and have fun.

The pool is not a cafeteria! Don’t eat or chew gum while you are swimming. It could make you choke!

No horseplay! Running, pushing, or shoving other people can cause serious injuries.

Get out of the water immediately if you hear thunder or see lightning.
