African-American Rosenwald Schools

Join the Lake Alfred Historical Society as they welcome Historian/Researcher Dean McCracken, who will share his knowledge of Rosenwald Schools. These schools were founded by Booker T. Washington and Julius Rosenwald for the benefit of African-American children across the rural south.  Lake Alfred has been identified as once having a Rosenwald School, called Fruitland Academy. The land for the school was donated by the Fruitland Company, and the building was used from 1929 until 1964.
