Historical Society Marker Dedication

The Centennial Celebration continues in 2016 with the recognition of historic buildings around the City of Lake Alfred.

March 3 – First Bank of Lake Alfred (Historical Museum),  210 Seminole Ave

Following the celebration of the Lake Alfred Centennial, the City of Lake Alfred and Lake Alfred Historical Society have partnered together to recognize historic buildings within the community. Buildings are historically significant to the early settlement and foundations of Lake Alfred. Each dedication ceremony will include a presentation of the history of the building and an unveiling of a historical building marker plaque. Everyone is welcome to attend and learn about our history!  Each ceremony will be held on-site, at 9 am.

2015 Christmas Parade and Gardner Park events

The Lake Alfred Christmas Parade was held on Saturday December 5th.   the theme was 100 Years of Magic to celebrate the City’s Centennial year.



There was snow, new holiday lights, a new Christmas tree, and story-telling.

2015 Veterans Day

On November 11th the Cities of Lake Alfred and Auburndale honored all those who have served in the armed forces at the Veterans Memorial at Gardner Park.

Centennial Recognitions

City Manager Leavengood recognized the City Commission, businesses and distinguished citizens for their involvement in the Centennial events throughout the year. Plaques were presented to the Charles Lake, Mayor, Nancy Z. Daley, Vice Mayor, Jack Dearmin, Commissioner, John Duncan, Commissioner, Albertus Maultsby, City Attorney, Seth Claytor, Assistant City Attorney, The Lake Alfred Chamber of Commerce, Historical Society, Friends of the Library, Lions Club, First Baptist Church, CenterState Bank, Judy Schelfo, Betty Shinn, Pastor Mike Jones and City manager Leavengood.

Other were also presented with Centennial Plaques at other meeting s and functions including the the City of Auburndale, TECO and the City Department Directors.

2015 Purple Heart Memorial Dedication

A dedication ceremony was held on March 28, 2015 for the new Purple Heart memorial at the Veterans Memorial located in the Frank C. Gardner Park.  The event was well attended despite the weather.  An envoy from the South Korean government attended the event and expressed their appreciation.

4th Of July

Lake Alfred celebrated the 4th of July from 10 to 2pm at Lions Park. Events included Free Gator/Reptile Show, Car Show, and Kids under 12 received a free snow cone.  The Lions Club held a Fishing Tournament, and there was food, entertainment, games, vendors, and a bounce house.

Centennial Celebration and Time Capsule

The Centennial Celebration was a great success. Representative from all aspects attended including current and past political leaders, businesses, civic groups, educational and religious organizations, other cities, and our family of citizens.

Fire Department Pinning

Fire Department Centennial Badge Ceremony

A new commemorative centennial badge was designed and issued to all current Fire Fighters to celebrate the 100th Centennial of the City of Lake Alfred. The ceremony was held on May 18th. Friends and Family attended this event and participated in the pinning. Fire Fighters receiving the Centennial Badges included: Chief Chris Costine, Captain Michael Jeff Allen, and Fire Fighters Wilder “Will” Rodriguez, William Emro, Christopher Varner, and Frederick Poke. Captain Brian Beasley, Captain Wallace Nix and Fire Fighters Charles Parr and Hunter Hart were absent.

Good Ole Days

The City partnered with the Lake Alfred Historical Society, Lake Alfred Chamber of Commerce, Lake Alfred Lions Club, and Lake Alfred businesses to accomplish this FINAL Centennial celebration.  The event was held on November 7th at the lions Park.  The event featured family friendly events, old-fashioned food and activities, an antique car show and fireworks.

Police Week and Officer Pinning

On May 4th Mayor Daley proclaimed May 10-16 as National Police Week.  Chief Art Bodenheimer accepted the Police Week Proclamation. In addition, a new commemorative centennial badge was designed and issued to all current Police Officers to celebrate the 100th Centennial of the City of Lake Alfred. The ceremony for the Police Officers was on May 4th. Friends and Family attended this event and participated in the pinning. Officers receiving the Centennial Badges included: Chief Art Bodenheimer, Lieutenant Gerald Dempsey, Sergeant Jennifer Gillett, Officer Anthony Gettle, Officer Wade Garner, Officer Carolyn Spicer, Officer Jeffery Blose, Officer Juan “Tony” Lopez, Officer Brenton Trimble, and Officer Matthew “Trent” O’Neal. Officer Laurie Green was absent.
