On Monday, May 3, 2021, the Lake Alfred City Commission officially declared the week of May 9-15 as National Police Week.
WHEREAS, in 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as National Police Memorial Week. Currently, tens of thousands of law enforcement officers from around the world converge on Washington, DC to participate in many planned events which honor those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice; and
WHEREAS, there are approximately 900,000 law enforcement officers serving in communities across the United States, including the dedicated members of the City of Lake Alfred Police Department; and
WHEREAS, it is important that all citizens know and understand the duties, responsibilities, hazards, and sacrifices of their law enforcement agency, and that members of our law enforcement agency recognize their duty to serve the people by safeguarding life and property, by protecting them against violence and disorder, by protecting the innocent against deception, and the weak against oppression; and
WHEREAS, The City of Lake Alfred honors the valor, service, and dedication of all Police Officers, and publicly recognizes the service of every one of our members of the Lake Alfred Police Department.
NOW, therefore be it proclaimed the City of Lake Alfred formally designates May 9 -15, 2021, as
“NATIONAL POLICE WEEK”
in the City of Lake Alfred and urge all citizens to publicly recognize the service of law enforcement officers in our community and communities across the nation.
