National Veterans Small Business Week Proclamation

On Monday, November 1, 2021, the Lake Alfred City Commission officially recognized the first week of November as National Veterans Small Business Week.

Mayor Daley read the National Veterans Business Week proclamation into the record. It was accepted by Ed Arbuthnot of Freedom Insurance.

Ed Arbuthnot said thank you on behalf of all business Veterans in the Country. He said just remember if it were not for the Veterans – past, and present – we would not be here today. He said, “All gave some and some gave all”. He concluded by saying thank you.

National Veterans Small Business


WHEREAS, Our Nation’s veteran-owned small businesses define our communities,
drive innovation, and create the products and services that enrich our lives and solve global
problems to build a better and more sustainable world; and

WHEREAS, Polk County, Florida is home to more than 48,000 veterans and 4,415
veteran-owned firms generating $1.331 Billion in annual sales per the U.S. Census Bureau,
2012 Economic Census: Survey of Business Owners; and

WHEREAS, less than one half of one percent of the US population served our Country
in the Armed Forces, yet veteran-owned businesses represent nine percent of all US firms
(2017 SBA); and

WHEREAS, there are 185,756 veteran-owned businesses in Florida generating $57.7
billion in annual sales; and

WHEREAS, National Veterans Small Business Week is dedicated to supporting veteran
entrepreneurs and business owners and their families, and to encourage people to purchase
goods and services from these hard-working men and women.

NOW, THEREFORE, I Nancy Z. Daley, Mayor of the City of Lake Alfred, hereby encourage all
citizens to recognize the first week of November as:
