The City of Lake Alfred Bass project began in 2018 by Commissioner Charles Lake and former Commissioner John Duncan. The design was based on the City’s logo and approved by the City
Commission in 2019. There were a total of six sculptures produced from Fiberglass Animals out of Nebraska.
On July 31, 2020, the first six-foot fiberglass Bass, painted as a natural bass, was unveiled at City Hall by Commissioner Lake, City Commissioners, City Staff, and community members. It was the first of several that would be placed throughout the City.
Three of the five remaining unpainted sculptures were sent to our local schools, Lake Alfred Elementary, Discovery Middle, and Discovery High school. The art departments allowed the students to design and paint their bass and encouraged them to be creative in the design. The sculptures were provided with a protective clear coating and are anticipated to be visibly displayed in the City’s
right-of-way throughout the center of town.
We sincerely thank Ms. Russe’s Discovery High school students, Ms. Dunham’s Discovery Middle school students, and Ms. Davis’s Lake Alfred Elementary students for a fantastic job and we are
looking forward to having the two remaining sculptures designed and painted in the upcoming months.
