On Monday, May 17, 2021, during the regularly scheduled Commission Meeting, City Manager Leavengood recognized Public Works Director John Deaton for his twenty years of service. He said it was a rare opportunity for him to recognize one of his team members. He said John was hired in May of 2001, was promoted to Utilities Director in 2006, and then promoted to Public Works Director in 2010. John has had a great run here in the City of Lake Alfred and he is an all-hands kind of guy so if the water main breaks at 2 AM, John is the one out there in the hole. Another thing about John is his phone is always ringing with his staff asking questions and he always has the answer. That is a testament to his service. John is very hands-on with the crew and has a cost-cutting mindset. He shared some experiences when John was innovative in saving the City money. This goes back to John’s leadership skills. He concluded by thanking John for his twenty years of service saying he has done a fantastic job.
Public Works Director Deaton thanked everyone, the City Manager, and the City Commission. He said over his twenty years he has worked with some good people. It has been really good and he has seen people come and go. The citizens we serve are in a small community so we get to know everyone and everyone pretty much knows who he is. He continued and said he enjoys that and coming to work every day. Plus he gets to work with his wife every day. He thanked everyone again and hoped everyone would get to work with a company for twenty years that they get to enjoy going to work. Thank you.
